Do I really need whole-home surge protection?▾
If you've added — or plan to add — an EV charger, heat pump, solar or a smart panel, yes. Those are exactly the loads a surge destroys, and NEC 230.67 now requires an SPD on new and upgraded services. It's a small add that protects thousands in equipment.
Isn't a power strip enough?▾
No. A plug-in strip only protects what's plugged into it, and not from the biggest surges coming in on your service. A panel-mounted SPD clamps the surge at the source and protects your whole home — hardwired loads included. We often layer both.
How long does an SPD last?▾
SPDs absorb surges over time and eventually wear out — good ones have a status indicator that shows when they need replacing. We install units with an indicator and note it in your portal so you know.
Can you add it with my panel upgrade?▾
Yes — that's the ideal time, and NEC 230.67 requires it on a service upgrade anyway. Bundling it in is the cheapest way to get whole-home protection.
