How much does a Tesla Powerwall cost installed?

Battery backup pricing depends on how many units you need and what your panel requires to interconnect safely. Here's the honest installed range in our area.

We're Astral — a licensed C-10 electrical contractor (CSLB #1114918). Honest ranges, permit included, your exact number from a free assessment.

Typical cost in our area

A single Powerwall 3, installed to code with the gateway and needed panel work, typically runs $13,000–$18,000 in our area before incentives.

What you're gettingTypical range
One Tesla Powerwall 3 — installed, turnkey$13,000 – $18,000
Each additional Powerwall$8,500 – $11,000
SPAN smart panel (added)$4,500 – $7,500
Solar-ready / interconnection panel upgrade if neededadd $6,500 – $9,500

These are typical ranges for our service area, not a quote. Every home is different — the real number comes from a free on-site assessment and a NEC load calculation by a licensed C-10. We never promise a price online we can't stand behind.

Heads-up on incentives: the federal residential solar tax credit (25D) ended after 2025, so a battery's value now comes from California's SGIP rebate plus self-using your solar under NEM 3.0 — not an expired 30% federal credit. We only show you what's actually current.

What moves the price

Number of Powerwalls / total kWh of backup
Whether your panel meets NEC 705.12 (the 120% busbar rule) or needs an upgrade
Backup scope — whole-home vs essential circuits (a SPAN panel changes this)
Mounting location, run length, and gateway placement
SGIP and other current incentives you may qualify for

What a done-right price includes

The cheapest number online usually leaves this out. Ours doesn't.

  • Tesla-certified Powerwall install with the Backup Gateway
  • NEC 705.12 interconnection done right (busbar checked)
  • Backup sized around your must-run circuits
  • Permit + inspection
  • We flag SGIP + current incentives — never promising eligibility

Questions, answered straight

Do I need solar to get a Powerwall?+

No. A Powerwall can back up your essential circuits with or without solar. With solar it also stores your daytime production to use at night — which is the smart move under NEM 3.0.

Will I get 30% back federally?+

Not anymore for residential — the 25D credit ended after 2025. Anyone still advertising a 30% federal solar credit is quoting an expired program. California's SGIP battery rebate may apply, and we check that for your address.
